IRRAWADDY RIVER CRUISES

2024 & 2025 RIVER CRUISES

Leave the familiar behind and explore a land that has long been off-limits to the rest of the world. Discover Burma by river cruising the Irrawaddy.

Burma (the UK still doesn't recognise the name Myanmar, even though the UN does) is opening up. As the politics of the region start to change, there are greater opportunities to explore this beautiful and often mesmerising country.

The Irrawaddy is Burma's most important waterway. The people living by it rely on it for survival. Barges and bamboo rafts, fishing boats and ferries plod sedately along its length. You'll pass oxen pulling carts in the fields that line the banks. Children run excitedly alongside you, trying to keep up with your ship. Nowhere else does river cruising make you feel as though you're helping - even in a small way - to put a nation back on its feet.

River cruising on the Irrawaddy is like stepping into the pages of a Rider Haggard adventure. The ornately decorated tips of monasteries and ruined temples peak above the trees. And few sites can compare with standing on deck, watching the spectacular temple city of Bagan hove into view.
