Seine River Guide

The Seine is without doubt the best-known river in France. At 482 miles long , it passes through Paris and past the Eifel Tower, bordering 10 of the 20 arrondisements and drains the Paris Basin. The river Seine's major tributaries are the Marne, Oise, and Yonne rivers. The average depth of the river Seine at Paris is around 8 metres and here the river is only 24 metres above sea level.

There are 32 bridges on the river in Paris, some of them more impressive than others. None more so that the oldest bridge on the Seine - the Pont Neuf which has been immortalized by artists and poets and even 20th century films. Another popular bridge along the river Seine is the Pont Des Arts, which differs from many other bridges
in that it is constructed of metal and is entirely pedestrian.

As you meander along the Seine you will see the changes from the famous sights of Paris to the charm and character of the Normandy coast.

There are some superb places to visit on a river Seine cruise including Les Andelys, where Chateau Gaillard dominates the beautiful countryside of the Seine Valley. Many of the interesting stops along the river Seine are gateways to some superb excursions. A stop at Conflans-Sainte- Hornorine offers a superb excursion to Beauvis, a city that is dominated by the St Pierre Cathedral. This is known as one of the most important Gothic buildings in France.

Le Havre offers the opportunity to skip across the estuary to the beautiful town of Honfleur. Why not take in a visit to the Chateau de Breuil where you can sample the famous Clvados - apple brandy as it is distilled.
