Russian Waterways River Guide
The Russian Waterways is made up of the River Volga and the Volga Baltic Waterway and its many canal and river systems. The Volga Baltic Waterway is important in that it links the Volga River with St Petersburg. By far, cruising the Russian Waterways is the best way to see the Russian Countryside and discover the history and culture of the people of Russia.
Russia's capital Moscow is of course landlocked and therefore the only way to visit this amazing destination by boat is on a Russian Waterways cruise.
The waterways also link the Volga River with the Baltic Sea and your journey along the river will take you through startling countryside, and provide an insight to the many kremlins, monasteries and Russian churches.
he Russian Waterway was constructed in 1709 to forge a link from St Petersburg into mainland Russia and it was not until the early 1930's that work started on the major canals.
