Moselle River Guide

The Moselle flowins through France, Luxembourg and Germany. It is a left tributary of the river Rhine, joining it at Koblenz, and from source to mouth it is 338 miles. It is also the longest tributary of the river Rhine.

The Moselle's source is in the Vosges mountains in France and it flows through the Lorraine region, west of the Vosges. As you get further downstream the Moselle continues its path through Germany, where the Moselle Valley forms the division between the Eifel and Hunsruck mountain regions.

The Moselle valley is world famous for its beautiful scenery and the superb Mosel wines. It also boasts Trier, Germany's oldest city and Cochem, a picturesque town in the wine producing region. A fine example of this superb wine producing region is a call at Bernkastel, surrounded by almost 150 acres of vineyards. Bernkastel is actuallyt a double city, bernkastel-Kues is divided by the Moselle. Here you will find the Gothic almshouse that is still to this day, providing a refuge for the less fortnuate members of the community - a practise that has been around for 1000 years.
