Explore the city of Cologne this morning on an included tour.
The city was founded by the Romans and has long been an important trading centre. The vast Gothic cathedral that towers over the surroundings was started in 1248 as a pilgrimage church to house the relics of the three Magi. The two spires are 157 metres high, and were not completed until 1880. Other highlights include Hohenzollern Bridge, and the pretty Altstadt, or old town, which has been sensitively restored to it's pre-World War II glory.
Set sail at lunchtime and cruise to Koblenz, arriving in the evening.
This morning you have the opportunity to join a walking tour of Koblenz on an optional excursion, which includes a visit to Ehrenbreitstein Fortress.
Spend the afternoon cruising to Rüdesheim, arriving in the evening in time for an optional wine tasting excursion.
An included excursion this morning visits the Siegfried's Museum of Mechanical Music, an eccentric collection of 350 self-playing instruments. In this whimsical museum you’ll find a fantastical, nostalgic and joyous cacophony of music boxes, barrel organs, hand-cranked carnival machines and early jukeboxes, all in full working order. Highpoints include the ‘Puppet Orchestrion’, a huge cabinet containing puppet musicians (1888) and the later ‘Phonoliszt Violina’ a blend of piano and violins that plays in perfect harmony.
At lunchtime your ship cruises to Boppard arriving in the afternoon. This evening you have the opportunity to enjoy an optional wine tasting session.
This morning perhaps join an optional excursion exploring the highlights of the ‘Federal City’. Spend the rest of the day cruising towards Amsterdam.
Arrive in the capital late this afternoon and after an early dinner transfer by coach to the Ziggo Dome to take your Category 1 seat for André Rieu and the Johann Strauss Orchestra, as they give their New Year’s concert. Known for inspiring his audiences to dance in the aisles, look forward to sparkling music as the maestro and his orchestra celebrate another new year!
Return to your ship afterwards.
Wake up for a full day in the Dutch capital. After breakfast perhaps join an optional excursion to Volendam, Edam and the Katwoude cheese farm.
