The Sounds of the 60s in the Netherlands 2021 Saga River Cruise
Sail the scenic waterways of Holland and visit interesting and iconic cities, all set to the soundtrack of classic 60s music. Enjoy live performances on board Rex Rheni on all five nights of your cruise, which begins in the cosmopolitan Dutch capital of Amsterdam, where you might wish to explore the iconic canals on an optional excursion. Cruise to enjoy free time in Zaandam and then continue to Hoorn, where another excursion visits the once prominent trading town, and the interesting Westfries Museum. In historic Utrecht you might choose to join another optional guided tour before sailing into Germany and on to your final port of call, Cologne, where you have plenty of time to explore at leisure or to conduct a self-guided tour – a fitting way to round off your musical holiday in style.
Travel to Amsterdam and embark Rex Rheni. Enjoy to a welcome reception and dinner on board as you remain moored overnight. You can also enjoy a live performance from Band of Gold to get your musical holiday off to an exuberant start.
Wake up in Amsterdam with plenty of time this morning for exploration, either independently or by joining an optional city tour which features a canal cruise. Set sail before lunch and cruise on to reach Zaandam, where you have some free time this afternoon to explore independently. Remain moored here overnight.
Sail through breakfast to reach Hoorn mid-morning. You'll have the whole afternoon in Hoorn to see the 16th and 17th-century town houses – the Dutch East India Company made it a wealthy trading town. Perhaps join an optional walking tour which also visits the interesting Westfries Museum. Set sail early evening and you’ll need your dancing shoes once more as your latest live music set takes place after dinner. Arrive in Utrecht late tonight and moor overnight.
This morning perhaps take an independent stroll through the medieval heart of the city with its 112-metre high Domtoren tower or visit one of the city’s museums, alternatively you might prefer to join an optional two-hour guided walking tour of the city. Set sail mid-afternoon with your latest live set to entertain you on board this evening as you cruise through the night bound for Germany.
Bid farewell to the Netherlands as you cruise through the morning to arrive in Cologne before lunch. Spend the afternoon at leisure exploring this attractive city, famous for its imposing cathedral and for giving its name to 'Eau de Cologne'! The city was founded by the Romans and has long been an important trading centre. The vast Gothic cathedral that towers over the surroundings was started in 1248 as a pilgrimage church to house the relics of the three Magi. The two spires are 157 metres high, and were not completed until 1880. The final night of your holiday is spent moored in Cologne, where you can enjoy a rousing musical finale on board this evening.
