The Majestic Rhine 2019 Emerald Waterways River Cruise
Your journey through Germany includes a visit to Rüdesheim to see Seigfried’s Mechanical Musical Instrument Museum. While ancient Koblenz and Mannheim’s beautifully diverse architecture will be sure to amaze, as will your following exploration of the picturesque spa town of Baden-Baden in the southwest of the Black Forest. Take a coach to the Alsace capital Strasbourg and cross the border into France on a visit to Colmar, before heading home from Basel.
Welcome to Frankfurt, where you will be met and transferred from the airport to your Emerald Waterways Star-Ship in Mainz. This evening, you'll be invited to join your fellow travellers for dinner on-board. Your Cruise Director will also conduct a port talk to review the activities and itinerary for the days ahead. Journey time: 30 minutes approximately.
Arrive in Rüdesheim, one of Germany’s most popular towns and gateway to the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Upper Middle Rhine Valley. Your included tour will be a visit to the Siegfried’s Mechanical Musical Instrument Museum where you'll also get the chance to taste the famous “Rüdesheimer Coffee”, made with Germany’s most famous brandy Asbach Uralt. Later on, in your free time, you can continue exploring the remarkably well-maintained town, which feels much like you are stepping back in time. With something beautiful at every turn, there will be plentiful opportunities for photographs. Tonight, join your captain and fellow guests for the captain's Welcome Gala Dinner.

Cruise to the 2000-year-old town of Koblenz, which is situated at the confluence of the Rhine and Moselle rivers. Visit the Ehrenbreitstein Fortress on the opposite side of the river. This fortress was part of the Prussian defences against the French in the 19th Century and later used as a headquarters for the American military during WWII. In the afternoon, sail through the spectacular Rhine Gorge, passing countless castles and vineyards as well as the infamous Lorelei Statue and Pfalzgrafenstein Castle, which was built on an island in the middle of the river as a Medieval toll station. Countless vineyards and Medieval castles line the shores of this section of the river, with photo opportunities at every bend.

Continue sailing to the town of Mannheim, located at the confluence of the Rhine and Neckar rivers. There you will visit the Medieval town of Heidelberg, including the impressive castle which overlooks the town. Enjoy free time there before returning to the ship for lunch and an afternoon sailing.

Today, your journey will take you to the Rhine town of Rastatt. Your morning coach tour will take you to the hidden jewel of Baden-Baden. Nestled in the beautiful landscape along the border of the Black Forest, the international spa and cultural town is an indulgent paradise. Guaranteeing exquisite views, you can enjoy the art and culture, as well as each individual elegant boutique and the shops along the historic Kurhaus Colonnade. Alternatively, if you are feeling more active, you can embark on a guided hike to the castle (Altes Schloss), as part of our EmeraldACTIVE program. Built in 1102, discover its secret dungeons and winding staircases, and enjoy the view of Baden-Baden, the Black Forest and the Rhine Valley from the lookout point.

Once docked in Kehl you will be transferred by coach across the river to Strasbourg, the capital city of the Alsace Region in France. In Strasbourg, you will have a canal tour on a 'Batorama', passing by the many attractions of the Alsatian capital, in particular the famous Petite France, the tanners’ quarter, the Covered Bridges, the Vauban dam, the Neustadt imperial quarter, and some European institutions. Your afternoon is free to continuing exploring Strasbourg.

Today, you have a choice to commence your magical morning with a tour to Colmar, a town in the Grand Est region of north-eastern France, close to the border of Germany. Cosy, cobblestone streets, lined with half-timbered Medieval and early renaissance buildings, lively restaurants and shops, your guided city tour will take you past the Unterlinden Museum, the Maison des Têtes, Minster of St. Marti, and the little Venice quarter, amongst other charming places. The city is on the Alsace Wine Route, and local vineyards specialize in Riesling and Gewürztraminer wines. Those feeling more active can embark on a guided bike ride to Colmar as part of our EmeraldACTIVE program, passing by the beautiful Alsacean landscapes, and will be transferred back to Breisach by coach after some free time to explore.

Welcome to Basel, the centre for Switzerland's pharmaceutical industry. After breakfast you will disembark your ship and transfer to the airport for your homebound flight.
