Plain Sailing Guarantee

  • Any guests who test positive for Coronavirus and therefore cannot travel can move their cruise to another with no administration fees, covering guests on any cruise up to the end of 2021
  • The money will be held for the cancellation for up to 12 months to give you plenty of time to choose an alternative sailing of at least the same value. All you will need to do is call us prior to departure to let us know you cannot travel


New insurance cover

  • With their preferred insurance partner, Holiday Extras, cover for coronavirus is now included. This will support you if you become ill during your cruise with medical assistance plus repatriation costs and accommodation for you and a companion should you need it
  • This new policy is available to all guests who meet Holiday Extra’s health criteria, including those aged over 70



The highest cleanliness standards

  • The protocols used on board follow those approved for hospitals, including a dedicated sanitation team who work throughout the day and night ensuring all surfaces in all areas are frequently cleaned with anti-viral solutions. With regular auditing using UV and swab testing carried out by a Sanitation Officer
  • Your cabin will be cleaned with the same anti-viral solutions on each day of your cruise and each cabin is deep cleaned between guests departing and arriving. These solutions will kill bacteria and viruses including Norovirus and Coronavirus


Fresh air

  • Fred. Olsen's smaller ships are designed to deliver 100% fresh air, meaning there is a much lower requirement for air recirculation on board, which is reassuring for any guests concerned about air conditioning recirculation


Specialist medical facilities

  • Fred. Olsen have medical centres on board their ships managed by teams of Doctors and Nurses. They are also working with Public Health England, the CLIA Medical Action Group and other UK cruise lines to develop agreed and comprehensive processes for how they will isolate and treat any guests with symptoms



Additional port options

  • Fred. Olsen are continuously following the latest advice and guidance from the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office on which ports you can visit when you start sailing again
  • Luckily their smaller ships have more options for alternative ports, which allows them to change course much more easily if government advice changes about any planned ports of call


Pre-approved tour partners and smaller groups 

  • Fred. Olsen only sell shore tours from pre-approved partners in the country that you are visiting
  • Their tours only visit attractions when approved local tour providers are confident they are following the expected health and safety protocols
  • Their smaller ships allow for smaller tours and they have a capacity limit of no more than 25 guests in each shore tour group

Small ships, not small print — Fred. Olsen's new Plain Sailing Guarantee is designed to give you every reassurance about your booking during these unusual times. It comes completely without clauses or caveats, and will cover guests on all cruises departing in 2021.

No quibble refunds — If your cruise unfortunately gets cancelled and you wouldn't like to be transferred to another, you will receive a full refund, with no quibbles, at any time

Transfer on your terms  — If your cruise is cancelled and you would like to transfer to a new one, you will receive a Future Cruise Voucher to spend on top of any money you have paid. There is no rush and no pressure to make up your mind, you’ll get up to 24 months to decide. If you can’t find another cruise after that time, you'll receive an additional 5% when refunding the money you have paid, to account for any interest it may have earned

Only pay when you’re sure  — Fred. Olsen have promised to contact you at least 30 days before you sail if your cruise is cancelled due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic
