Itinerary

Arrive at Munich Airport and transfer to Nuremberg to embark your Emerald Waterways luxury river cruise ship and where you will be welcomed by your Captain and crew. Nuremberg is situated along the Main–Danube canal, an engineering masterpiece linking the rivers of Germany with the mighty Danube which flows from the Alps to the Black Sea.

This morning’s sailing takes you through the final stretch of the fascinating Main-Danube Canal to Kelheim. As you cruise along the Danube River you’ll reach Regensburg. On your guided walking tour you’ll have the chance to admire one of the oldest bridges crossing the Danube as well as the city’s architectural highlights. Southwest of the Stone Bridge in Regensburg lies the old merchants’ quarter, where you’ll get to see a number of old tower-houses and the picturesque Old Town Hall that dates from the 14th century with historical apartments, a Medieval courtroom, and collections of art and antiquities. This evening, you have an invitation to enjoy a Welcome Dinner where you’ll be able to meet other guests, crew and the captain, and acquaint yourself with life on the river.

Situated at the confluence of the rivers Danube, Inn and Ilz, today you’re visiting Passau - the “Three Rivers City”. On this morning’s walking tour, you’ll stroll through the cobblestone streets and narrow alleys before emerging to find the perfect view of the hilltop Oberhaus Fortress. You’ll then have the chance to appreciate the wonderfully ornate architecture of St. Stephen’s Cathedral which towers majestically above Passau and is the mother church of the eastern Danube region and St. Stephen’s Church in Vienna - and home to the world’s largest cathedral organ, with over 17,000 pipes. As an alternative you may book an optional full day tour (including lunch) to Salzburg in Austria - one of the best-preserved city centres north of the Alps and a UNESCO World Heritage Site filled with dreaming spires, green hills and many romantic gardens. Or you may prefer to visit the UNESCO World Heritage City, Ceský Krumlov - a small town in the South Bohemian Region of the Czech Republic. Built around a 13th century castle with Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque elements, it’s an outstanding example of a small central European Medieval town whose architectural heritage has remained intact over more than five centuries.

Your tour of Austria’s wine-growing region begins in Melk - a pretty town situated on the south bank of the Danube River. Here you’ll explore a 900-year old Benedictine abbey which is located above the town on a splendid rocky outcrop overlooking where the Danube joins the Wachau Valley - an UNESCO World Heritage Site. Later, you’ll sail to Dürnstein through the great Wachau Valley - home to the 12th century castle where Richard the Lionheart was imprisoned after returning from the crusades.

Today, we take you on an icon-filled coach tour along the Ringstrasse where you’ll see Vienna’s famous Opera House, Burgtheatre, Town Hall and Hofburg Imperial Palace, before hopping off to explore further on foot. You’ll then head to the centre of Vienna where St Stephen’s cathedral stands proud and majestic in the main square. During your free time, you could walk to the top where you’ll be able to take in the city’s fabulous sights from a truly unique vantage point. This evening, you have the choice to take an exclusive optional trip to enjoy a Viennese concert and/or visit Schönbrunn Palace.

Today you’ll experience the bustling pedestrian plazas and stylish street cafés of Bratislava. And for a more profound insight, you’ll be taken on a sightseeing tour of the Old Town. Afterwards, you’ll enjoy a special home-hosted afternoon tea with a local Slovakian family, providing you with a truly authentic insight into Slovakian culture. This evening, you have an extra special invite to the Captain’s Gala Dinner.

For an amazing end to a fantastic holiday, we welcome you to Budapest - Eastern Europe’s liveliest city. Today we take a tour to either Fisherman’s Bastion situated on Castle Hill, where you’re free to admire the most breath-taking panoramic views of the city. You will also see Matthias Church and the iconic Chain Bridge that links Buda and Pest. The day concludes with an evening cruise along the Danube, where you’ll enjoy a traditional Hungarian Farewell Dinner, complete with folk dancing and music.

After breakfast to prepare you for the day ahead, it’s time to say your goodbyes before you’re transferred to the airport and your journey home begins.
